Meet Coach Jodie Boettger!

Let’s get to know our newest Struct Club instructor, Jodie!

Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a fitness instructor?

My journey began when my daughters were 2 and 4 and I was looking for work that would utilize my talents. My aunt (who is now 80 years old and still teaching fitness classes) was my inspiration then and continues to be now! I quickly became group fitness certified and then moved into Les Mills programs, eventually striking out as the Assistant Group Fitness Director for a two city chain of 22 clubs, designing the pre-choreography, selecting music, and holding instructor trainings in our own signature series classes.

How Jodie uses Struct Club

“Using Struct Club has taken my online classes to another level! I can confidently teach, knowing that these classes will be on demand long term, because of the app helping me to ensure that no cue is missed and every opportunity to utilize the power of my music is taken advantage of.”

How would you describe your classes?

My classes are enthusiastic and music driven with a focus on cueing creatively and technically to ensure participants have fun, get results, and stay safe.

As a coach, what are your top sources of inspiration and motivation?

It always starts with the music for me. My process involves listening to the song, envisioning myself in a workout and what would feel right to be doing during the different segments of the song. A game changer for me early in my career was learning about Upper and Lower Crossed Syndrome theory (Vladimir Janda). This revolutionized how I designed programs and workouts and helped me to ensure that participants and clients not only get more fit, but are also helped to correct issues common to the majority of participants. I want to help people to move better.

What have been some learnings you’ve had being a fitness instructor that you wish you knew when you first began? Any advice you’d give to brand new instructors?

I wish that I had taken a personal training certification sooner, as the additional knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, and movement theory really helped me go to another level in my confidence and ability as a group fitness instructor. My advice would be to continue to seek out mentors and go to fellow instructors’ classes for ideas on how you can improve. Welcome evaluations. Be humble. Focus on your "why" every day.
